What is a Spinlets™ widget?

A Spinlets™ widget is a piece of content, such as a Flash or JavaScript application, RSS feed, image, or Web page, which has been registered with SpinletsLab. Registering a Spinlets™ widget enables it to easily be distributed and shared, and enables SpinletsLab to log various metrics as it is propagated across the Web.

What is SpinletsLab?

SpinletsLab gives you a set of tools for creating, managing, and tracking your Spinlets™ widgets. You can also take advantage of the SpinletsLab APIs to access some of these tools programmatically.

How does SpinletsLab work?

When you register a Spinlets™ widget, you can distribute it to any of a large number of social networking, blogging, and other Web sites. SpinletsLab generates the appropriate code for posting to each site, and places the JavaScript code on the site for you. The JavaScript points to the widget definition on the SpinletsLab servers, which in turn serve your widget (which is hosted on your Web server).

On the target Web site, your widget includes the Take It 2GO button. When an end user clicks the Take It 2GO button, the Take it 2GO menu appears. The Take It 2GO menu enables the end user to redistribute the widget to another Web site, thereby virally spreading your widget across the Web. Each time your Spinlets™ widget is redistributed (or placed) on another Web site, SpinletsLab logs the placement, enabling you to track where your widget is going.
