Distributing a Spinlets Widget
You have created your widget, registered it in your SpinletsLab account, and edited its settings. Now it is time to share it with the world. You want to put it someplace where end users will see it, enjoy it, and spread it across the Web by sharing it on other sites. The process of placing your widget for the first time is called seeding your Spinlets™ widget. This document describes your seeding options.
To distribute your Spinlets™ widget, click the My Spinlets tab. Click the Distribute button for the desired widget.
Post/Share
The Post/Share option enables you to place your Spinlets™ widget on any of a large number of social networking, blogging, and other Web sites; get the JavaScript code to place your widget on any Web site (including your own); download and install your widget on your desktop; or email your widget to anyone.
To use these methods, click on Post/Share in the left navigation bar.
Post to Supported Web Sites
SpinletsLab can automatically post your Spinlets™ widget to certain Web sites:
- In another browser window or tab, log in to your account on the target Web site.
- In SpinletsLab, find the target Web site in the list. Use the left and right arrow buttons in the upper right corner of the list to see the various sites.
- When you find the target Web site, click on its icon.
- Click on the Post to... button. A new browser window or tab should open to the appropriate page for posting your widget. If it does not, click the Copy button, open a new browser window, and paste the code in the Address field of your browser. Press ENTER to open the page.
- On the target Web site’s page, specify any options (such as a title or description), and post your widget.
Post to Other Web Sites
If your desired Web site is not listed, you can still post your Spinlets™ widget:
- Use the right arrow button in the upper right corner to navigate to the last page of the list.
- Click Get Code.
- Choose JavaScript Code or MySpace-Only Code. (The MySpace-Only code is useful for posting your widget somewhere other than your MySpace blog, bulletin, or profile.)
- Click Copy to copy the code to the clipboard.
- In an editor for your desired Web page, paste the code.
- Save and publish your Web page.
Download to Your Desktop
You can download and install your Spinlets™ widget on your desktop. Currently, this feature us supports only the Yahoo! Widget platform. You must have the platform already installed on your computer.
- Under "Or download to your desktop," click Yahoo! Widget.
- Click Download. The widget should start automatically.
Email to a Friend
To email your Spinlets™ widget to a friend, scroll down to the "Share your Spinlet with your friends" section. Specify your friend’s name, email address, and an optional message, and click Send.
Your friend will receive an email that contains a link to your widget.
Galleries
You can post your widget to the Google Gadget or Live Gadget galleries. You must have an account with these services to post widgets to their galleries.
- In the left navigation bar, click Galleries.
- Choose one or more galleries to post your widget to, then click Next Step.
- Enter your account information for your selected gallerie(s). If desired, you can choose to have SpinletsLab remember your passwords.
- Click Next Step.
- Specify information about your Spinlets™ widget and yourself in the provided fields.
- Click Next Step.
- Verify the information, and click Post.
It can take several days for your widget to appear in your selected galleries.
