Concepts and Definitions
Campaign
The SpinletsLab Campaigns feature enables you to group widgets together for overall tracking and analysis purposes. You can view a variety of reports that show metrics for the campaign overall or that compare metrics for the widgets assigned to a campaign.
A widget can be assigned to more than one campaign.
Context Parameter
Context Parameters enable you to pass contextual information to your widget server, such as the location of the end user or the domain of the placement. This information can be processed on the server side to control what gets served to a particular end user.
You select context parameters by editing a widget’s settings in the My Spinlets tool.
HTML Wrapper
You can add HTML code to the top or bottom (or both) of your widget. This feature enables you to further customize the display of your widget with text, links, images, JavaScript, or anything else that you can put in HTML.
You specify HTML Wrapper code by editing a widget’s settings in the My Spinlets tool.
In-Widget API
The SpinletsLab In-Widget API enables you to include custom tracking functionality within your Flash widgets. You can log specific events and track when a specific URL is opened from within the widget.
On-Page API
The On-Page API enables you to add a standard or customized Take It 2GO menu to a registered widget. The Take It 2GO menu enables the end user to publish your widget on any of several dozen services, such as MySpace, Facebook, and various blogging sites. The On-Page API gives you several options for showing, hiding, and customizing the Take It 2GO menu.
Placement
A placement is an instance of your registered widget on some service. When an end user finds your widget and uses the Take It 2GO menu to publish it on a service, the placement is recorded by the SpinletsLab servers and assigned a unique identifier, called a Placement ID. Placement IDs are used to track the spread of your widget across the Web.
Platform API
The Platform API enables you to programmatically register a Flash widget to your SpinletsLab account, and enables you to obtain the XML/HTML code for embedding a registered widget in a Web page.
Registered Widget
A registered widget is a widget that has been registered in your SpinletsLab account, and is also known as a Spinlets™ widget. Registering a widget enables the SpinletsLab servers to track and report metrics for your widget.
Seed
To seed a widget is to place it on a Web page for the first time. From there, end users should find it and distribute it to other Web sites.
Spinlets™ Widget Parameter
You can specify parameters to be passed to your Flash, HTML, or JavaScript Spinlets™ widgets. The advantage of specifying these parameters in your Spinlets™ widget definition is that you can change them at any time, and the changes will be applied to all existing placements of your widget the next time the end users load them.
Widget
A widget is a piece of code (HTML or JavaScript), a Flash SWF file, an image file, a Google Gadget, a Web page, or an RSS feed. A widget self-contained and modular, and is intended to be distributed by end users on various social networking, blogging, or other Web sites, or installed on end users’ computers.
